Fire at Parliament After AC Plant Fix Goes Wrong
04 August 2015

Fire broke out at an air-conditioning unit behind the main reception at the Parliament complex recently. Ten fire tenders were rushed to the scene and the flames were doused within half an hour. Preliminary investigaions suggest that the fire was caused by a spark from a welding machine when workers were repairing the AC unit. Director of Delhi Fire Service, AK Sharma, said that the blaze started when a plastic wire caught fire with sparks from the welding machine. Fire department sources said there were other inflammable materials stored inside the plant. Around 2.30 pm a security guard posted near gate number 8, which leads to the reception, noticed the fire. Fire officials said that the workers fled immediately. The repairing work of the AC plant was being done by a private contractor in charge of maintaining the plant.
