STULZ Awarded for Efficiency and Beauty at the DCD Global Awards
01 June 2018

Germany based global air conditioning company STULZ was presented with two awards at the DCD Awards in London in December. STULZ and Africa’s largest vendor-neutral data centre, Teraco, were presented the prestigious 2017 DCD Global Award in the category ‘Energy Efficiency Improvers’ for their project ‘Isando Data Centre 7’, which demonstrated that high energy efficiency is achievable even at fl uctuating temperature conditions and a lack of reliable energy infrastructure. The colocation data centre located in Johannesburg, South Africa is equipped with CyberCool 2 chillers and CyberAir 3 units, which add to a total cooling power of approximately 2 MW. By optimising the switchover points, the system can run in free cool mode up to 20°C, thereby achieving high efficiency values.

STULZ was also a key part of another project to win at the DCD Awards. Supercomputing centre MareNostrum located in the historical chapel Torre Girona, Barcelona, Spain won the prize for the category ‘World’s Most Beautiful Data Centre’. STULZ was entrusted with implementation of the facility’s precise and attractive cooling. Now in their eleventh year, the DCD Awards went global for the first time and celebrated the best projects, technologies, companies, individuals and teams from across the world. The well attended December 2017 gala event was hosted at London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel to celebrate these hotly contested awards, which received over 200 entries from 30 countries.
