Ozone Day Celebrated
15 January 2016

We celebrated International Ozone Day on September 16, the day the Montreal Protocol on Ozone Depleting Substances was agreed upon in 1987. It was adopted on January 1, 1989. India is a signatory to the Montreal Protocol under which it has agreed to phase out ozone depleting substances CFC, HCFC and CTC and use their alternatives.

Global warming, climate change, ozone depletion and other issues concerning the earth are of great concern to all. We are repeatedly reminded to conserve resources and recycle wherever possible. We are aware that natural resources are dwindling and mankind will be affected by it. Global warming is a result of an increase in the average temperature on the earth’s surface caused by solar activity, volcanoes and the presence of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Man has contributed to global warming by deforesting large areas of land, burning fossil fuels and releasing ozone depleting substances into the atmosphere. The ozone layer filters out about 95% of UV rays that fall on the earth. Due to the rapid thinning of the ozone layer and the subsequent formation of a hole in the layer, more ultra violet rays reach the earth resulting in global warming. CFC and HCFC, mainly used in refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and as foam blowing agents, cause ozone depletion. We at Max Cooling System are working with refrigeration and air conditioning technicians to educate, train and encourage them to recover, recycle and reuse CFC and HCFC and use non ozone depleting refrigerants like HC. In our capacity as Organizer, Trainer and Facilitator of technician training programs in Maharashtra and Goa, we have conducted 96 training programs and trained over 2000 technicians, so far, between 2001 and 2015. Under this program, technicians who complete the two-day training program are given certificates.
