Facebook to Build Data Center Powered by 100% Renewable Energy
15 November 2015

Facebook has announced plans to build a new data center in north Texas. It will be the social network’s fifth data center, with the others located in Altoona, Iowa; Prineville, Oregon; Forest City, North Carolina; and Lulea, Sweden. According to Tom Furlong, Facebook’s vice president of Infrastructure, it will be one of the most advanced, efficient, and sustainable data centers in the world, as it will be powered by 100% renewable
energy. Facebook will construct a 200 MW wind energy plant on 17,000 acres (6900 ha). It plans to deliver excess energy from the facility to the grid via local utilities. (Source: The HVAC&R Industry, 9 July 2015)
