Daikin to Invest $410M to Build U.S. Plant

Daikin Industries Ltd., the world’s top seller of air conditioners,will build a new plant in Texas to consolidate production and logistics activities of its subsidiary Goodman Global Inc. Investing about $410 million (about ¥48.6 billion) in the new facility, the company plans to increase its production 1.5 times from around 3.7 million to 5.5 million units annually in 2020. The new plant of around 350,000 square meters, combining Goodman’s four production and two logistic plants in Texas and Tennessee, will be built near the headquarters of Goodman in Houston. Operations are slated to begin in mid-2016. Goodman mainly sells residential and commercial air conditioners in North America. Its sales were around ¥250 billion in fiscal 2013.
