Bitzer Approves its Two-stage Recip for use with R448A and R449A
05 February 2016

Bitzer has optimised all models of its 2-stage reciprocating compressors for R448A and R449A refrigerants and thermostatic expansion valves.
With low global warming potential (GWP) values of 1386 and 1397, both refrigerants are eco-friendly alternatives to R404A with GWP of 3922. The EU
F-gas Regulation prohibits the use of R404A beyond 2020 in stationary applications. Transitional refrigerants such as R448A and R449A are needed in the interim period prior to switching over to low GWP refrigerants. Tests have shown that the optimised compressors can be run with the two refrigerants, with or without a liquid subcooler. In addition, Bitzer has fitted every model in its semi-hermetic 2-stage compressor series with thermostatic expansion valves.
